Super Heavy Duty Hangers
Available Here for $19
As a habitual corner-cutter, I often retrieve a shirt from its hanger by giving it a swift tug. If you happen to have a closet full of flimsy plastic hangers that you may have scooped up off the side of the road on moving day, the tug is sometimes followed by a snap.
One can live with an occasional snap, but sometimes one weak hanger gets the whole bunch frightened, and all of a sudden, each successive costume change takes a hanger out of the starting rotation. At some point I snapped, and started furiously searching the web for a stronger substitute.
I always like to throw a little “made in the usa” after typing the object of my desire into the search bar, and that is how I came across these hangers. The manufacturer, Neaties, makes a “heavy duty hanger” and a “super heavy duty” hanger. I splurged on the “super heavy duty” model, knowing it was completely overkill for supporting the heft of a single button-down shirt.
Living with the hangers for a few months now, the thing I have really come to appreciate is how pleasing the extra girth is on the eye. The thicker plastic tubing turns an ordinary hanger into a round, sumptuous visually pleasing object. Instead of your closet feeling like a barn full of mis-matched mangy dogs ready for fabric scraps, my closet now feels like a racing stable containing an orderly pack of finely-bread shiny white steeds ready for dutiful service. All this is to say, this is the cheapest wardrobe upgrade out there.
