Schott 1,000 ml Lab Bottle
Buy Here for $11.90
This was not a product I was searching for in my life. Strolling through a residential neighborhood, I spotted a giveaway box containing four glass laboratory bottles. The design and shape of the containers was appealing but it was beholding the substantialness of their weight in my hand that really sent me over the moon.
There are multitudes of manufactures of this type of laboratory bottle, but the ones I adopted were made in Germany by Schott, a laboratory supply manufacturer. Side note: maybe it was the provenance of the bottle that really slayed me.
Despite the considerable downsides of the bottle: it is heavier than aluminum, it is still breakable AND it doesn't fit in your standard car cup holder, I do derive a superior pleasure from drinking out of it .There is something about the size of the opening and the thickness of the sidewall that sends the water rolling into your mouth at a tempo ideally suited for savoring and quenching!
That said, I’m not suggesting this is the first and last water bottle you will ever need, however, just as any good hardware store has a selection of Ball jars and aluminum water bottles, the hardware store of my dreams would offer a selection of these laboratory bottles in different sizes.
These bottles hold down an interesting value proposition in that they are about twice as expensive and doubly more durable than a ball jar and about half the cost of a fancy Hydroflask. The good news is that if you forget your Schott bottle at the gym, and someone with sticky fingers happens upon it in the lost and found box, and then has the audacity to use it use in public later on, you can walk up to them with a shit eating grin and say, “thats a very lovely and interesting water container you have, may I ask where you bought it?”
Note: 1000ml is 33.8 ozs - if you are on a Tom Brady-esque water regime, you need to drink 4-5 of these a day.
More Important note: I took a lot of time scouring the internet finding a site that will sell these bottles individually, most sites only sell them by the case. Buying a case and giving them out as gifts would be a very strong move though - you might change a fellow water connoisseur’s life.
